7 Great Things about Being a Trini

We in Trinidad love to complain about our living conditions and while some of those claims are justified in some cases, we do possess some great traits and why most of us are proud to be Trini. Here are some of those.

We’re still humane
In other countries, people can lie on the pavement in clear need of medical assistance and be totally ignored by scores of passersby. We’re not like that in Trinidad, at least not yet.

We diverse
Where else in the world are there so many cultures mixed up in such a small place? We learn from each culture and adopt some of each other’s traits, from food to music, the lights from the neighbour’s house spill over into ours. It’s a beautiful thing.

You can make something for yourself
For the hardworking type, you can actually succeed in T&T, believe it or not. Only those who sit around complaining about no work opportunities or “that job” isn’t good enough for them are the ones who don’t make it. There are many multi-millionaires and wealthy people who have made it big in our country because they grind every day.

We still friendly
Our customer service in this country needs a lot of work, however, outside the confines of those service-unfriendly environments, we can “pull talk” with a stranger and become friends really quickly.

We don’t have serial killers, mass shootings or extremists
Ok, our crime rate is one of the worst but one thing we can be thankful for, I think, is that we don’t have serial killers (that we know of), mass shootings don’t occur and our people don’t walk around in fear of suicide bombers or extremists who would commit terrorism. Looking at the glass half full okay.

You can get away with Murder, literally
Not encouraging it, but thanks to the inefficiency of the criminal investigative and justice system, most murder cases go unsolved. Sometimes we wonder if they really know what they’re doing.

You don’t have to go to jail if you don’t want to
Believe it or not, if you don’t want to go to jail for crimes you don’t have to. All you need to do is gain some level of power or wealth and you can use the justice system to your advantage and avoid jail time. If this were not possible, there are a lot of people who should be behind bars that are currently not.
